It is understood that Qualcomm has been investing in 5G research and development since 2006, and has been working for more than ten years, and has been committed to promoting the development of 5G new air interface (NR) global standards. In fact, whether it is 3G/4G or the upcoming 5G, Qualcomm has been an active participant and important contributor to 3GPP. For example, Qualcomm has consistently contributed 5G design to 3GPP, including OFDM-based waveforms, advanced channel coding, millimeter-wave and other technologies, plus the evolution of 4G LTE and Gigabit LTE, paving the way for 5G development.

In the past two years, in 2016, Qualcomm announced the realization of the world's first 5G NR data connection system, becoming an important milestone for the development of 5G NR. Shortly thereafter, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon X50 5G modem series, the industry's first 5G new air interface multimode modem that supports 2G/3G/4G/5G multimode functionality on a single chip, including Gigabit LTE, which will be an important complement to 5G. . Currently, 20 OEMs around the world are working hard to develop based on this first commercially released 5G modem. In addition, 18 operators worldwide including China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom are also using the Qualcomm Xiaolong X50 5G modem to support the ongoing 5G new air mobile test, including below 6GHz and millimeter wave.

Just a few days before the launch of MWCS, Qualcomm and Datang Mobile jointly announced that the two companies will cooperate on the 5G new air interface interoperability in the 3.5GHz band based on the 3GPP Release 15 standard.
